Let's talk about the benefits of having a roommate!

Studies show that students who have a roommate their first year tend to have an increased GPA and a healthier lifestyle that promotes both personal fitness and a greater sense of balance.

Additionally, students who have a roommate gain a greater appreciation for diversity and seem to connect to campus life in a greater way!

▼   How to search for a roommate:

 

  1. Login to your MyUSAHousing portal and click the 'Apply to Live On-Campus' link.

  2. Click the 'Continue' button for 'Academic Year 2026-2027' and make sure you have completed the USA Housing application – you will not be able to search for a roommate until your application is completed.

  3. You will be taken to the last page completed, which should say 'Your Housing contract to live on-campus is complete!' at the top. Select 'Roommate Search' from the dropdown options at the bottom of the page and click the 'Save & Continue' button.

  4. On the 'Search for a Roommate with RoomSync' step, you should click the customized link that corresponds to your classification for the Fall 2026 term. DO NOT share the link. A new window will open for you to register with RoomSync and allow you to download the app on your device's app store.

  5. Register with RoomSync by clicking the 'Register with Google' button, making sure to only choose your USA JagMail email address (i.e., southpaw@jagmail.southalabama.edu) as other email addresses will NOT work (JagMail uses the Google Suite system). If you do not see your JagMail email address listed as an option, you will need to scroll down on the pop-up window and click 'Add Account' to register with it.

  6. Once you have registered, downloaded, and created a profile, RoomSync will guide you through the roommate selection process. You can search for roommates based on factors like academic major, lifestyle preferences, mutual friends, hobbies, interests, and more!

  7. After you have found your preferred roommate(s), all students will need to confirm the match requests within the RoomSync app. Once all roommates have been matched and confirmed within RoomSync, our USA Housing team will receive a report with your roommate requests on it to update our records to ensure you and your roommate(s) are listed as a verified roommate group.

November 12 @ 9am*              'Roommate Search with RoomSync' OPENS (MyUSAHousing) - must have a completed application to access
February 10 @ 5pm* Deadline for Current Residents, Upperclassmen, and Transfer Students to confirm roommate matches within RoomSync.
April 9 @ 5pm* Deadline for Incoming First-Year Freshmen to confirm roommate matches within RoomSync.
